FILMMAKER'S PRESENTATIONS

All events are open to the public and take place at the SCERA Center for the Arts in Orem (745 South State Street).

Anne Edwards, Sally Meyer
Anne and Sally are two moms who decided to make a movie. As a result, they produced the film Minor Details, which screens at the LDS Film Festival this year. Sally is also the screenwriter of the film, and has three other projects in this year's festival. The two will talk about their experience and how they got from an idea to a full length movie. They will show clips from the film and answer questions from the audience.

Michael Flynn
Michael has numerous years of acting experience, appearing in over 100 film and television projects. In recent years, he also began producing films, most notably The Best Two Years, The Dance, and Heber Holiday. Michael has taught acting for many years and has recently opened The Actors Workshop. He will talk about his acting and producing experience and offer insight into his many years of working in film.

Christian Vuissa
After last year's The Errand of Angels, Christian returns with a new film to the festival, Father in Israel. Besides being an active filmmaker, he is also the founder and president of the LDS Film Festival. Christian will talk about the future of LDS Cinema and the LDS Film Festival, and will introduce his unique film production model. He will also talk about the efforts of the festival to support young filmmakers.

Seth Packard
Seth wrote, directed and starred in HottieBoombaLottie, a comedy that recently premiered at the LA Film Festival. He has been a professional actor for the past five years, and his credits include three Disney Channel Original films as well as a lead role in I'll Always Know What You Did Last Summer. Seth will show clips from HottieBoombaLottie and explore how he got from script to screen to distribution deal.

Maclain Nelson
Maclain is the lead in both Dragon Hunter and The Sinking of Santa Isabel. He is also a producer of the two films and feels comfortable both in front and behind the camera. Maclain will talk about his versatile experience in filmmaking, and explore the importance of being involved in all aspects of filmmaking.

Alan Williams, Russ Lasson, Zach Hilton
Alan, Russ, and Zach are with Cosmic Pictures and Universal Post and have extensive experience in post-production workflow and color correction. They also focus specifically on workflow with the new RED Camera Technology, and have recently done just that with Christian Vuissa's Father in Israel, where the provided dailies during production and managed the high-res conversion and color correction. They will talk about Universal Post's services with RED workflow and color correction.

Rick Stevenson
Rick is a director, writer, and producer based in Seattle and known for his work in film and television. He has worked with Hugh Grant, Meg Ryan, Kiefer Sutherland, and many others, and recently directed, co-wrote and produced Expiration Date, which screens at this year's LDS Film Festival. He is not LDS, but has followed the LDS Cinema movement over the last few years and finds much in common with the LDS film community. He will talk about his experience as an independent filmmaker and offer a unique outside perspective on the LDS Film Movement.

Anne Sward Hansen, Marshall Moore
Anne is an actress and entertainer with 27 years of professional experience in television, film and stage. She is currently the film acting instructor at BYU and has served three terms as President of the Utah Branch of the Screen Actors Guild. She also sits on the SAG Indie Committee where she helps with the development of independent filmmakers. Anne will be joined by Marshall Moore, director of the Utah Film Commission, to talk about the Utah Film Incentive Bill (SB14) and how you can help bring more film work to Utah.

Script Workshop Introduction
Festival president Christian Vuissa will introduce the script workshop, a hands-on scriptwriting workshop with the goal of completing a 7-page script by the end of the course. He will also introduce the writers and filmmakers of this year's 7-Page Script Competition and show two of the finished films. Find out more about the script workshop at this free introduction.

Robert Allen Elliott
Rob is the composer of four films at this year's festival, including Father in Israel, Minor Details, and One Man's Treasure. He will talk about the "ingredients" of a good score, and how music themes and cues support the plot and character development in a film. Rob will let you listen in on some of the music he has scored and explain how a composer works best with the director in establishing the score for a film.

Matt Hoffman, Rob Field
Matt and Rob have extensive experience in CGI and visual effects work and are involved in many of the local productions. Some of their work is represented in this year's festival, including Dragon Hunter, Minor Details, and Father in israel. Matt and Rob will explain why visual effects can be useful for practically any film, regardless of genre, style, or budget. They will give examples of their work and answer questions from the audience.

Award Ceremony
The LDS Film Festival awards a number of prizes and honorable mentions to honor and recognize filmmakers. The winners and honorable mentions of the short film competition, 24-hour filmmaking marathon, and 7-page script competition will be announced at an informal come-together. Admission is free.
For the third time, we will also recognize two filmmakers with special honorary awards. The Pioneer Award honors a filmmaker who has prepared the way with his or her pioneering efforts in filmmaking. The Visionary Award is given to a filmmaker who has been a visionary influence for the LDS film community and whose work has been an inspiration to other filmmakers.
